Drive By Blogging

Drive by blogging is for those times when I don't feel qualified, inspired, have enough time, etc. to complete a full sentence, paragraph, post on a cohesive subject. (It is important that I post something so I can make the photo of the world's ugliest cake from my previous post go away, well at least to the bottom of the screen.)

So here are a few random thoughts in lieu of a real post-

- I don't like thinning seedlings in my garden. I know it's necessary and all that, but it feels a little like being the executioner, deciding which plant lives and which is sacrificed for the common good of the garden plot.

- Why do people who work at restaurants give you so many packets of condiments? I have never eaten Hot Mustard for a second time, but I have enough to open my own Chinese Restaurant. Same thing with the hot sauce. It's like they can't help themselves.

- From now on, I am just giving toilet plungers as housewarming gifts. Plungers are the best present on the planet for any homeowner. Forget the bottle of wine or flowers, a powerful plunger will be appreciated for years to come.

Please share any randomness that you would like and Thank you!

I don't like thinning seedlings either. I say let them fight it out in true Darwinian fashion! If you survive the first fight, you'll then have to survive my continued neglect...why do I plant seeds if I'm just going to ignore them, you ask? Because I think most plants thrive on benign neglect.

I have no problem thinning seedlings, I find it very statisfying. I'm not sure I like what this says about me.

I think the toilet plunger is brilliant. Best housewarming present we got was a fire extinguisher and a garbage can.

Yes, toilet plungers and I began to bring a dish to pass in a really nice covered server with a nice serving spoon or ladle and then told them it was part of the gift. Battery radio and crank flashlights too. Agree with the sauce packet thing though there are times that I will either give them right back or specify that I only need soy sauce with the order. Just a thought! Last year I gave away a bunch of my seedlings to Freecyclers who want to garden but lack the funds. Then told them to bring their own containers, people went absolutely nuts and then the plants lived on in another place :)

Oops, I also had the Freecyclers help me thin so they had to work for the plants and I didn't have to do ALL the work.

Oh sure now I will never look at seedlings again in the same way... hmmmph! :)

That is an awesome gift (we should have done this to all our friends years ago... before hubby got his jaw fixed there wasn't much chewing, and lets say it let to his reputation of being a plug-er EVERYWHERE he went! OK TMI... good thing he now chews all his food!) Still think it's a great gift!

Sorry to hear about the dog and the cake! Yikes!

Thanks for the kind words on my blog! I hope we can meet IRL someday!

hugs

I love the title of this post! Much more creative than your typical 'Randomness'.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. We love new visitors.

..I so wish someone had given me a plunger as a housewarming gift. There is nothing like running to the nearest store in your pj's late a night when you discover you need one!

They don't give us anything here in Portugal and if you ask for more condiments, you get a nasty look. And I'm such a sucker for freebies.

I know what you mean about the seedlings.

We have a constant plunger fight out our home - BigB likes to leave it out...right next to the toilet...for thewhole world to see. I would rather it was hidden - because all I can think about when Isee one is what its used for. Blech! But, yes...a much needed, and useful tool :)

Jason, as himself said...

Do you give those big heavy duty super sucker plungers? They're the only kind worth having.

I like plungers! I'll have to remember that. The one I have just "died" and I always forget to pick up a replacement....I am sure it's the same with my friends and family.

also welcomed: toilet paper, laundry detergent, (diapers), dish soap, ....the practicals. I am changing my policies at gift time. The other year I sent a mass email to friends and family to "guide" them to a gift that is actually useful for us or the kids......NO BIG PLASTIC TOYS WITH MANY PARTS!

Thanks for letting me speak my random. Good Post. Even if it was to push down the cake. =)

I love the plunger idea - it so true. I might have to start doing that.
