Teen Revelations with Kids Say What?

D., our eldest son, 14 y/o, started high school a few weeks ago. He is enjoying school including not having to wear a uniform, (there is a dress code, no gangster or hoochie mamawear, exposed midriffs, spaghetti straps, inappropriate tshirts, the list is quite detailed), but it is much more liberal than his junior high uniform. He is very happy to be wearing his Beatles, Metallica, and National Sarcasm Society (Like we need your support) Tshirts to school.

D.told me after the first week of school that despite partially expecting the Seniors at the school to "stab me in the heart, they ignored me." He was relieved with this outcome.

He is taking Spanish and is also enjoying the class very much. He practices the Spanish alphabet with our dog, Charley. Charley is a very attentive student learning to roll his Rs.

D.also determined that my new car "wasn't new any longer after a month". Just in time for my first car payment.

Thanks for sharing in my reflections through a teen boy prism. For more Kids Say What?, please visit Cammie at The House of No Sleep.

Actually, it's the adults who say "What?", kids say "Huh?".

I think he might like some of Mr. Spit's shirts.

And as I recall, at least in my house, it was Kids say huh? and their parents say "Pardon?".

I love seeing the teen version of this. Makes me giggle since I have a looooooong way to go before heading down that road

Also relieved that D. didn't get stabbed in the heart! He would so scoff at me - I keep forgetting that my 4 year old car isn't new.

I have a nephew his age who also just started high school. I didn't think I'd appreciate him at this age, but I have to say - he's much better now than he was at 10 and 11!

i'm so glad though that he's enjoying himself so much... it could be such a scary time for some... but it sounds like he's doing great!

I had to laugh at this. What are kids like? I've never heard of a national Sarcasm society..t-shirt or otherwise!! Are they on the internet. i thought I might check it out. It would be something my 12 year would love :)

The Sarcasm Society t-shirt is a riot. We bought one for my brother in law years ago that said: Department of Redundancy Department
:)

Aww! That's so nice that he is enjoying high school and you are such an open family and talk about it all. I started right after my parents divorced and needless to say I was very sad and lost and nobody gave a crap. This will make a difference. I hope to have nearly half what your family has, you sound very close and happy. Oh, and I consider a car new for much longer I think.

I'd like to see a high school dress code list that really includes no "hoochie mamawear" - maybe then they'd really get it, LOL!
