Our Older son, D., is a 14 y/o in his first year of high school. One of the clubs he joined is Academic Seminar where they field a team that competes in academic competitions. The faculty advisor quizzes the students with questions checking their knowledge of various subjects and ability to use the buzzer and answer questions under pressure.
The instructor asked D., "Who wrote Winnie The Pooh?"
He answered in the style of one of our family's most favorite TV shows, Jeopardy, "Who is A.A.Milne?"
D. has alot of insight, he was talking about "people need perspective" and not just think about themselves. We talked about the developmental tasks and stages of teenagers and young adults including the traits of self centeredness and the attitude of immortality. He confirmed it, Wow, Mr.Maturity.
S., our 11 y /o had his school pictures done last week and he wore a nice shirt and combed his hair unlike last year where he wore a well loved NY Yankees tshirt and sported his usual tousled curls. S. got a kick out of the school photographer calling everyone, "Babe". "Here, Babe, line up here." "Please stand up straight, Babe." Smile Babe."
S. also said he felt like a statue or a model or something equally unpleasant about having to pose and stand still for the pictures.
Of course, my four legged kid, the Dog, Charley also does an abundance of cute stuff including being the official greeter at the local dog park, Central Bark, and rolling over to scratch his back. He also specializes in stealth, drive by licks where when he walks past you he kisses your leg. Very Sweet.

I have all this to look forward to!
Ha! Funny boys! Thanks for sharing :)
I totally do that Jeopardy thing too! It's such a bonus to answer a question correctly and still feel like an idiot...because as soon as the words come out of your mouth the "Ooh, I wasn't supposed to answer in the form of a question" thought goes racing through your mind. D sounds like a very interesting young man.
I remember my school pictures as "Sit on the stool, knees to the left, face forward, smile, *SNAP*. NEXT!" And the photographers were not very friendly either.
My 14 yr old cousin is wise beyond her years and is having a horrible time fitting in in HS. :(
Yeah, in my bronchitis induced sickiness I forgot it was Thursday.
oops
your 14 y/o sounds wise beyond his years; I'm not sure my 20 y/o could have had such a conversation like you two had
I get it with your 11 y/o too, I remember taking our wedding pictures years ago and how it got a bit tiring with the constant posing, the tilting of the heads, etc. I think I would have gotten a bit tired of hearing "Babe" too; bit derogatory don't you think??
hoping the day is a good one :)
betty
Your sons are so cool! I love Jeopardy! It took me a minute to figure out what was wrong with your son answering that way, LOL!
Sounds like you have great bunch there! :)
It must be so amazing (if bittersweet) to see your kiddos turning into thinking young adults. :)
I have a drive by head butting cat.
And some how I'm not surprised that your boys are so clever, their mum and dad are really wise too!
(SFO is amazing!)
Oh, I miss having kids around the house. Got the dogs but it's just not the same. Thanks for sharing.
