My Gardening Companion for Almost Wordless Wednesday
This California Fig Beetle was my companion in the garden for a little while and was hatched in our compost pile. When this beetle flew, I thought it was a hummingbird, it was THAT LOUD.
I've always liked beetles and agree with the Ancient Egyptians who see them as Good Luck.

i don't mind beetles... except when they smack me in the forward.. it's rather startling!... lol...
A beetle as loud as a hummingbird! I would be the one duckng for cover! Brave girl to grab the camera:)
Why do I have a feeling that this is a destructive little bugger?
If that were in my house, I would totally stomp it (ok, smack it really hard with a shoe, because we don't wear our shoes inside). Outside, I'd probably follow it around for a little while after I'd finished freaking out about it buzzing by me.

Whoa! That's a biggun'!!! We are currently in our crickets/locusts/bee season!
I've seen a few of these in our back yard too; didn't know they were considered good luck; maybe I better stop killing them :)

After coming in from the garden yesterday, I felt a tittle on the back of my neck, it turned out to be something like your beetle, it was green in colour, it looked so big in my eyes, I photographed it just like you. By the way, I can see you are indeed a very busy lady at the moment.
I didn't know they could be so loud and this beetle was most cooperative to allow you to photograph him. He is cute.
I am not a huge fan of bugs. Are they really a sign of good luck? I would like to hear more about that!
How do you control your compost pile? Does it just get really gross?
