My husband and I saw Slum.Dog Millionaire last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was an engaging and suspenseful movie that told the story of how a young man from the slums of Mumbai wins the biggest prize on a game show. This is a wonderful movie that lifted my heart and made me reflect on my own excess of good fortune and extraordinary wealth of my country and home. It is humbling to see the extreme poverty and street children of the third world and how they struggle for the most basic necessities; food, shelter, and safety. My pets have a better standard of living than these children and it's heartbreaking. You can't help but think, except for the circumstance of birth, there but for the Grace of God go I...
I got an announcement that my 30th High School reunion is planned for this summer. I had really wanted to go, but now that the date is set, I'm not so sure. I would love to see all my friends again, but it seems a little overwhelming. The High School reunion has their own facebook page and I've been sending some messages back and forth to my classmates. It's great to connect with some old friends, it's like opening up an old book I haven't read in a decade. I can't believe it's been thirty years since high school and we all still remember each other. (Well, at least most people.)
I have no plans today except to watch the commercials for NFL SuperBowl. I do not like watching sports (Boring!!!), but the commercials are alot of fun. (Usually better than the game.) I have 3D glasses for a few commercials will be in 3D. Pretty cool.
Well, off to fold laundry and tidy up the house before the Big Ad Blitz. Best to you and yours this Sunday.

Thanks for the movie synopsis - I'm so out of it on pop culture these days. I've been hearing buzz about the movie, but had no idea what it was about. I've seen news reports and documentaries about places like Mumbai, and I find it incomprehensible that people can survive those conditions. I also don't understand why first world "conveniences" that I would call necessities (like, um, sewer systems) have not made it to major cities in 3rd world countries. I mean, Chicago (where I grew up) has slums, but all areas have city water and city sewers. Wow.
Facebook is sure an interesting place. This past week, I reconnected with a couple people with whom I went to elementary school. I haven't actually seen either of them since I graduated from elementary school, which is odd, considering one lived down the street from me, and the other lived one block over.
I, too, love the ads during the Superbowl, but don't bother watching the game. I hope they have a little more variety than last year. I don't have 3D glasses, though. Hmmm.
I really want to see that movie, too. I could relate to your musings on the Grace of God (it came up inmy perfect moment this week).
I'll be eager to know if you decide to re-une or not (can I make up that word). It's always such a strange thing. Everyone is really two people -- the high school self and the now self. It complicates the interactions!
I have been avoiding that movie because I heard that it was very sad and depressing but also really well done. Perhaps I should give it a chance.
As for reunions, I am not a fan. I was not a cheerleader and actually had many family problems in high school and really never got into the crowd t my own school. Now they all want to be my friend on Facebook and well I don't know. I guess I feel like if we had nothing to day to each other 20 years ago, what's different now. There are a few people that found me on there that I did know or was friends with and it has been fun catching up and making a connection on things we now have in common.
I hate sports myself. I've tried to get into them but it just won't happen. My husband is a huge sports fan and so is his whole family, even all the women, young and old, even the grandmas? I like the snacks and the commercials. Oh, and the beauty of superbowl sunday? All the stores and restaurants without TV's are dead once the game's begun :)
Looking forward to snacks and commercials and "sloppy" tacos today while we watch the game.
I tagged you for something - it's fun, honest!
Hope you enjoy your adds! They cut them here in Canada, we get some cheesy Canadian 'stuff' instead! :)
Thanks for the movie review. Sounds like a ood week end. I was disappointed in most of the commercials.
