Comings and Goings

Charley the dog and the smallest Pack Leader, Abigail.

This past week marked two anniversaries that impacted my life greatly.

Last weekend was the 4 year anniversary of bringing our cat, Abigail, home from her foster home. She was a rescue kitty left with her sister in a box at a pet store about 50 miles away in southern Los Angeles. She was fostered by Cats At The Studios, a cat rescue organization organized by people who care and find homes for the strays that live on the grounds of the Studios. Abigail is a Tuxedo Manx; very sweet, smart, and affectionate to her family and her dog, Charley. It takes her awhile to warm up to new people, but she is very friendly when she does. She is my best bud, and I feel so lucky she has come into my life. Our oldest son named Abigail after a cute and sassy girl character from the Cartoon, "Kids Next Door". It suits her. To own and care for pets is a necessity for me and my well being. Especially a cat, a Manx cat named Abigail.

A few days ago was the 11th anniversary of my Grandma Rose's death. She was 95 years young and one of my best friends. She was sharp and funny until the day she passed and I celebrate and try to emulate her in the way she conducted her life. She was and continues to be a source of unconditional love. She showed me what it is to struggle, overcome, and succeed with her journey as a divorced mom, career woman, and a true and abiding friend to not only me, but to her son, my Dad. Thank you, dear Grandma Rose for all your love and gifts, they have not gone unbidden.

So, by the circumstance of the calendar, I celebrate the flow of unconditional love in my life, both human and feline. I'm a lucky woman indeed.

Grandma Rose sounded like a great woman. Thinking of you today.

Wow, you were certainly lucky to have your grandmother for so long. My last grandparent died 14 years ago - my mom's mom, who was a character and a strong woman.

There's something about unconditional love, isn't there?
I'm so glad that you have known so much.

Ah - the ebb and tide of life. The stray we took in ticked off the cat we've had for 6 years. Tigger left, and Sally (as you well know) now rules the house and the bathroom sink.

To the old and the new!

What a wonderful way to combine the two:-)

What a beautiful post! You are such a sweetheart. I do have one question..actually two. First, can you bottle some of that warm weather? Second, can Charley come play with Neela sometime. He is such a cutie. I just want to hug him!

Sounds like some great memories all around. I was lucky to have my great-grandmother around until 14 years ago and I'm so lucky to have had her inspiration too. She had a wonderful marriage (and even spoke her late husband's name when she passed), flirted with my husband (fiance at the time) because he apparently looked like Papa, made great food, fed lots of people that came to her during the Depression and lived in her own home until the day she passed when she was 93. I hope to be as great as she was. We were very close.

I'm back, wanted to say good for you adopting your kitty. Our dog is "new to us". We got her 3 weeks ago and she's wonderful.

I lived in SCV from '88 until '04. I got to see it grow and change quite a bit. I think I'll always be a CA girl at heart.

Beautiful post, by the way.

Abigail is a beautiful kitty! We have three rescued cats:) Your grandmother sounds like she was a very special person. I hope I can be sharp like that in my 90's and active! I like that you celebrate unconditional love. It's so important in our lives:)
