Please stop over at The Motivation Station (TMS) today where I am hosting the topic of holiday planning and budget ideas. This includes Regifting gift cards, minimizing holiday meltdowns of the culinary and psychological type, avoiding inviting the slacker relative, and Not dressing like a certain Pop icon.
I am delighted to Welcome our new TMS host for Fridays, The Head Eagle of The Eagle's View.
Thank you so much for your visit.
What are your tried and true coping strategies for the hectic holidays? Or do you just throw china across the room and leave town?

Our holidays are pretty low key.
Like Yaya, my holidays are typically pretty low key. There have been years that I wanted to throw the china and skip town! This year, being one of them!
well..i would be busy working even though my kids would be on school holidays..anyway..i would take a short break away from home..
Have a baby and tell everyone, sorry staying in this year. Pahahahahahaha . . . . . ahhhhhhhhh. Amen :) Now hopefully the MIL will not be coming over and staying indefinitely for HER new grandchild. Ugh!
My tried and true coping strategy? Internalizing my irritation until it blows up on my husband. Very effective.
I'm getting better about not worrying about things. I would probably do better if I hosted the festivities because then I would have something real to stress about!
Come on over and visit with me. I'm sharing an award with you!
Living it up at Lakewood,
Cindy
Love your blog :)
i don't like stress.. and so sometimes, if it gets too crazy, i just go to my home, crawl in bed.. and totally dream the happy thoughts!!!
lately low key holidays which is nice :) and those were some great tips you left over at the Motivation Station.
I am buying my first Christmas gift this year too today (well actually son is but I'm giving him money; a purse his girlfriend likes, he's going to go and buy it since he knows which one it is :)

I cope by geting Hubby out of the way for a few hours about a week/10 days before hand and laying everything we need to pack out on the spare bed - he then isn't allowed to touch anything on that pile.
Holidaying at home? I make sure that I get some me time - as much as I love him, I'm not used to him being in the house 24/7.
I going to find my china - I think I'm going to need it, LOL ;-)
Love the title of your post. Let the countdown begin. I hope we both end up in the newspaper but not for a temper tantrum! xoxo

Oh I think this could also be titled, "How to Survive the Holidays Without Ending Up in The Insane Asylum." Ha!
Well I have pre wrapped "just in case gifts" for those that might stop by without notice or someone that tags along with family. This way they feel included. I even take them with me for group parties in case some one gets us something nice, than I can reciprocate. It is a gift I might buy through out the year with exceptional quality (under $10, usually around $5) and is gender nuetral. Box of notecards, tasty food gift options/candy, $1 gifts from targets special baskets that are good for kids, Back to School Sales.....etc.
Oh, and I don't cope. I stew in the car and smile in front of the cheerful happy people. We do what I call the "triangle". Our house to 45minutes NorthEast and than 50 minutes to the second family that is West from there (North west from our home) than South East back to our home 45 minutes. yup that is 3 drive trips of 45 minutes each for more than 2 hours of driving. Yuck! but I love C's family, so I don't really hate it. =)
My kids know that our budget is very tight so their requests are really quite modest.
I usually like to be done with holiday shopping by Thanksgiving so I'd better get it done.
