Dish and Disgruntlement - Blogger Disclosures

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that any new source of media or revenue, to the government, must be in want of regulation.

Blogger disclosures are appearing all over blogland in response to the Federal Trade Commission's new guidelines on social media advertising and promotion. I do not have ads on my blogs or blog "commercially" or "professionally". But like the pros, I do have some blog disclosures to share-

The title of my blog, A Sense of Humor is Essential, was inspired by the Six Word Meme where you summarize your life in six words.

Regarding Memes and Awards, Tag at your own risk. I have some awards to catch up on and they all seem to come in batches. Thank you to my Nominators, I appreciate you all. I am in awe of folks who post these immediately. It takes me a long time to come up with semi interesting facts about myself, link up all the blogs, and adhere to the rules that these memes require.

Blogging is a hobby, akin to my gardening versus that of a professional landscaper. I don't even have a traffic, hit counter gadget downloaded. That would just dredge up too many insecurity issues from my adolescence.

I need to go on a blog diet. My blog list and general blog housekeeping feel flabby and out of shape.

I am intrigued by the same two cartoon women who seem to be very popular in Blog header designs. Where did these cartoon people come from? Is it many bloggers' dream to appear as Betty and Wilma from the Flintstones?

Disgruntlement disclosures:

Big flashing graphics and widgets, super loud music, hours to load the page, and brown lettering on a black background are my blog visit nemesis-es. Do these folks ever click on their blog like a visitor to see how it looks? Or do they just add their widgets and gadgets in the dark after imbibing?

Bloggers who never return a comment, Ever, Ever, Ever. It's like an one sided conversation whose deafening silence is saying that "You and your blog are chopped liver." (Old, moldy chopped liver.)

Mean commenters. What rock did these losers crawl out from under? Hey, I shouldn't be insulting Rocks! Luckily, I have only had one troll in 18 months of blogging, so turning off Anonymous comments works.

Thank you for reading this disclosure. Any disclosures you would like to propose, defend or refute?

No trees or small animals with big pretty eyes were harmed in the making of this entry. I did however neglect my dog's walk to bring this to you.

(Extra Credit Point Opportunity for identifying the author and book whose title and first sentence I mutilated for this post. ;o)

tMusic. I despise music on a blog. Absolutely can't stand it.

I keep hoping I'm not one of those people who don't return comments!

Music irks me too - but mostly because I'm startled by it.

I keep adding new blogs to my reader...

interesting people don't like music on blogs......will have to think about this....funny thing is I keep my speakers turned off so I have no idea what is playing when I open a blog and funny that I have music on my blog....

love your blogger disclosures. I'm with you on the ones that never return a comment or acknowledge your existence in any way. those are usually the ones that are first to go when I'm doing blog housekeeping maintenance work. I'm always fine tuning the blogs I follow, comment on, etc. a work in progress for sure

I have my speakers off all the time because I'm tired of being assaulted by noise.

I'm about to stop commenting on a few blogs that never return comments. I don't expect tit for tat, but I'm not gonna be the only one calling.

There was a time when I wanted a cartoon woman in my blog header too. I never put one there and since there's one on nearly every blog out there now, I don't want one anymore. I kinda like having a different look and name than a typical mom blog. You're the same way.

Or I could be A Mom in a Nutshell and you could be A Sense of Humor in a Mom is Essential. NOPE!

I agree with what you say. I usually turn my speakers off. And I lessen my comments when someone habitually does not comment to others. I don't get around to posting much with a f/t job, and life with hubs and 3 boys and I've been wanting to tell you I really appreciated the award and will not forget about it--in fact I feel a blog post soon will happen over it over here.
I also don't have stats. I have no idea where any hits I may have come from. I finally got around to updating my blogroll a few weeks ago.

OMG, so totally with you on the ADD need some meds to concentrate blog pages. I cannot even think yet alone read with the music that just came blaring out of my computer.

Then there is the one about the never ever commenters. I am dealing with one right now. I keep visiting her and have left comments, none mean just honest and leave some words about what I think and then some about where I am coming from if same or different. Weird!

My annoyance, fluff commenters. Comments that mean absolutely nothing but they want you to know they read your post. I have been guilty of doing this but usually only when I am already a faithful reader of such blog. You can disagree or talk about what you think in comments, that's what they are for :)

Momma Val said...

Thought of another one. Commenters that passively aggressively snark at other readers/commenters and their feelings or beliefs. I think this can happen innocently but very often it seems cleverly pointed at least on many LEOW sites. Sigh . . .

I try to return comments, but afraid I miss a few.
Music on blogs- not a fan either. I leave my speakers off as a result. So annoying....

Music on blogs makes me pee myself. I hate peeing myself.

Also, I try and return comments, but the Swine Flu is sucking my will at doing that. Going to give it a go tonight. We'll see how far I get.

I like the sound of silence! I do not return all comments, but I try to make my rounds with blog visits and comments as much as possible. My thing is party overload...so currently I'm not joining in any. I almost went award and tag free also, but too late! :)

-I'm not a fan of music on blogs. That's too Myspace for me. The other night someones' music actually startled me. (almost poopy in me pants)

-And sadly some bloggers don't have it so when a comment is left I can hit reply and it will start an email convo....:( Come on people...do it! (But yet...I hardly have time to email back people sometimes...sometimes...not all the times.

-And awards. I can't do it. I don't know how others do it so regularly. Sigh. Hanging head in shame.

Heart ya Martha!!

I don't like music that comes on automatically either, or flashy graphics or for that matter the falling snowflakes that make me thing my eyes have suddenly broken.

Mean bloggers really annoy me too though I've not had many. And if someone never visits me then I pretty quickly stop visiting them. I try to visit back everyone who visits me, I even have a system for making sure I do,

Momma Val said...

OK, Martha, these are the last two, honest, but they are good and had to add them. People that completely ignore being awarded. Like you don't have to do the whole thing, life is busy and full but not even a thank you?

OK, and the next one, when you read a post with some drama that ends asking for advice and opinions. Then people give advice and opinions. Then the blog author gets undies in a bundle, oh, or one girl took her blog down altogether. Huh?

Me (aka Danielle) said...

I couldn't agree more...with all of it! Well said!

KimboSue said...

I read somewhere recently that you should blog for yourself. To hell with hit counters and comment counts. Blogging is your own personal way to share your feelings. If people are reading, that's a bonus. If those people comment, even better. Just know that even if you only have 1 person visit you daily, you are important, or what you say us important to them.
*off soapbox*
ditto on the music. When I first started , I had a player on my page, but after I started reading others (especially when at work!) I realized how annoying it is!

♥ Liz ♥ said...

Shame on you for ranting and not walking your pooch :) It's so nice to have a moan every now and again so you go girl :)

♥ Liz ♥ said...

Meant to say....had to LOL at the music thing. I alway have my volume off so i never hear it. Is it really that bad?

Ebie said...

Great post Martha, and here's mine:
1) no music, my volume sound is mute.
2) bloggers who do not return the visits.
3) bloggers who join all memes but never visits. I have known a few.
4) blogs that take too long to upload. I leave.
Let me think of anything else.

Well said! It is so sad that the disclosures are even needed - sigh - what have we become as a world?

I added my own blogs to my google reader so I could see what others see in an effort to make them more readable.

Love the disclosures!!!!

I am guilty of the commenting thing. I can admit it. I try really hard to hit everyone back but usually I am reading comments between feedings and running around and I don't sit at my computer day in and out, though I check it frequently in little trips. I think this has made it hard for me to reverse through my comments and reply to each of them.

I LOVE all my bloggy friends and I will continue to try and return the love. I know I try and follow all my commenters and that (in my mind) helps let me off the hook with comments sometimes, haha

Tamara Dawn said...

Oh and I feel you on the cartoon thing. I dabble in design and I refuse to use cartoon people. Just not my bag if ya know what I mean!

I am AWFUL at awards. I love them. I am honored to be nominated but I am open about not posting them. It takes a lot of time for me to keep up my blog and some things have to be sacrificed for time reasons and awards were one of those things :(

Mean people totally suck.

You are too funny.

I stopped commenting on the no-comment-back blogger blogs.

Bravo - I may steel this post if I'm too lazy to post my own disclaimer.
I'm with you - I hate music on blogs and some that are really hard to read I just pass by.

but mostly because I'm startled by it. Work From Home

Sunny said...

Not a fan of the music or hard-to-read pages either.

The only thing worse than someone who NEVER EVER EVER returns a comment is that drive-by commenter who is obviously just trying to drum up comments/followers for his/her own blog and has absolutely no intention of coming back to yours. Comments are from these people are shallow and their strategy is, too!

Firstly: I never asked Picasa to post my photos!
How do they dare to put my photos on display without asking me.
I have difficulties to delete them, but I work on it.

Second: Yes, music, those background music are very disturbing, but I can turn them down as I do.

I do not like to use the Google mail, but it seems they don't want to understand, that I have a better mail.
Because blogging is free,-- one can not get really help. Yet they can use information as it comes handy.
