When your adult daughter has flowers delivered for your 79th birthday, please do not make the first, second, and third statements about the flowers, Questions about Why You Purchased Said flowers at a florist shop way downtown and Not a local florist shop near your house. Because you know, you are Concerned about how much your Adult daughter paid for the flowers and you didn't want her to Overpay! Heaven Forbid. And also, a local florist shop went out of business last year and there is only one florist left in town.
Please kindly remember that many adults use internet floral sites and have no control of where the Flowers Originate, only where they End Up. There are a multitude of discounts available for flowers and your daughter is a savvy shopper. Also, please keep in mind that the Giver is Not Responsible for the Local Economy in your community.
Thank you, No, I don't need the name of your local florist for the next time. There, unfortunately, will not be a next time. My sincere apologies.

Ugh, way to ruin the gift, huh?
Why is it that moms don't know that they're supposed to complain to their friends about their children's gifts...not the children?
Next time, you could send her a card and $5. That sounds like an appropriate gift for her 80th!
Happy Birthday to your mom!
Dear Martha's Mum:
this is such a simple situation. There is one correct response here. It's very hard to screw it up. Whether the flowers are lovely or dead ugly, beautiful or almost dead, the response is totally the same. I don't see how you could miss it.
The response, so that you can paste it on your fridge, possibly also your forehead, is simple - one compound word:
thank-you.
Any variation, including "thank-you darling, they are lovely" is acceptable.
Warm regards to a not so warm lady:
Mrs. Spit.
No matter how old we daughters are and how much experience we have, we just don't know as much!
(it feels good to share with friends, huh?!) :)
happy birthday to your mom! I could see myself doing this since I'm not good as a gift recipient; thanks for the reminder to be just a touch more grateful for a nice thoughtful gift (and I bet the flowers were gorgeous too!)
betty
Ah, families ...
Some people cannot accept gifts. :-)
lol... oh how we love our momma's sometimes!!!
It sounds like your mom caused pain, parents do that sometimes.
I know how it feels when a family member hurts you, it shocks the system really it does.
What does one do? They write about if of course. Brilliant job!
Feel what you feel, without regret. I applaud this post! Maybe your mom, no disrespect, should read it @ some point.
Family is a tough subject. Well done.
Aaaawwwww man! Rude recepients are the worst!
Awwwwww! Too bad. My friend is a vegan and then her mom gave her a plant that was not from "shopping locally" and well, there you have it. Just feel happy that you did a nice thing from your heart and say to Hell with all the other unnecessary garbage. If it's any consolation, I bought my mother a very pretty Murano glass pendant and necklace from a gallery from our summer vacation. She broke it before she ever got to wear it for the first time. Ugh! I was not mad at her, just very bummed :)
Darn mothers!!!
Gotta love that Mrs. Spit, she has learned from the best. Nice letter!!!
The flowers were for my mother, weren't they?
Uh-oh! I'm sorry!
Sounds very familiar! How about the adult daughter that brings 82 year old mother individual meals for the week that gets comments such as "How do you people eat this stuff" or "That dinner you made me for last night made me so sick" ... need I go on ::sigh::
Happy birthday to mom!
hahaha....I am so cheap I buy flowers in bulk and make my own arrangements if they are close, than I buy an old pitcher/vase from local 2nd hand store and take to said recipient. I find it fun to "see what I get".
I don't buy flowers for those out of state, I just don't. Sorrrrrrrrrrry! =)
Great looking flowers. Happy belated birthday to your Mom!
Hahaha! Well...those flowers are beautiful anyways!
Some people are so hard to please. It's always tougher when it's MOM!
