I found out this weekend after a visit to the emergency vet, that there are serious consequences to having a Dog who is a Foreign Object Ingestor. (Right, Mr. and Mrs.Spit and Delta?) I also learned you can give canned pumpkin and petromalt to a dog with quite effective results. I don't think I have ever been so happy to have my dog do his "business".
Note to Self- No more stuffed toys or dog beds.
Our family hosted the Superbowl party by default because, well, no one else offered to, and that's just the way it goes with our circle of friends who are allergic to entertaining. We went with a New Orleans food theme, serving Red Beans and Rice, and Buffalo Shrimp along with great potluck deliciousness. I watched one commercial and about 5 minutes of the game, but got to catch up with a bunch of friends, so that's the real Win right there. Plus, I am beyond thrilled for my family in N'Awlins and the city too.
Note to Self- Move the Big Screen TV and satellite box a Day or Two before the party, Not Two Hours before.
I am having to bring my best game to work these days. I am dealing with stuff they don't teach you about in Nursing school like how to be present and listen to someone who is going blind or will never get off dialysis. I have learned that I can't fix everything as a RN, but I can empathize and advocate which is also healing.
Note to Self- After 28 years, I think I'm finally getting the practice, art, and science of this Nursing Profession down. But I am still learning.
Any notes to self for you?

Note to self - you will hear more kind things than nasty things when you blog about abortion, but the nasty things will stay with you.
also, you can induce vomiting in dogs with hydrogen peroxide, which you will need to do when they eat an entire bowl of hard cat food.
Note to self - recently had the same issue with the dog eating the cat food so keep the cat food out of reach of the dog!
Note to self: don't get a dog. The neighbor's dog makes a great pet and I never have to take her to the emergency vet.
Note to self: encourage other neighbors to get dogs. See other note.
Note to self: when they predict 5" of snow, be aware it probably means a slight dusting and don't plan on an extra day off work.
Oh, forgot the most important one...
Note to self: plan trip to CA around Superbowl time next year and invite self over to Martha's.
Note to self: procrastination is horrible...but it's still fun.
We had a dog who ate almost every rock in our backyard. That was no fun...and like you, I was beyond excited to see he could pass things healthily again. ;-)

You will make a great nurse because not everyone is even capable of that type of empathy!
I think you could probably teach that stuff they don't teach you.
Note to self: You CAN watch most TV shows while tweeting, but you CANNOT watch Thirtysomething while tweeting. This show deserves your full attention.
isn't pumpkin wonderful? my new best friend (but make sure it isn't the pumpkin pie filling, LOL) sorry the dog was a bit under the weather; Koda is not known to put foreign objects in his mouth so we don't have that problem (but he is prone to stress LOL)
the Super Bowl gathering sounds fun!
nursing is a hard profession no matter how long you have been in it; I do admire you all who are in that profession and the work that you do
my note to self: be patient and wait on God and not get so down and worried about something because when you hear something from someone,it is music to your ears (I know, makes no sense to you but it is a good wonderful thing :)
betty
sounds like you guys had an awesome super bowl party!
and i TOTALLY respect you for the job and career you have.. it takes a certain person to do it.. and i KNOW i couldn't...
Note to dog: You can eat Miles' food but Miles can't eat yours.
Note to self: The only party we attend that we are not hosts of is the Super Bowl. Don't ever host a Super Bowl party or we will be hosts for all parties year round.
Note to self: Ditto on the trip to CA next year and invite ourselves to Super Bowl party at Martha's. Because she rocks as a host.
Note to Martha: You are the greatest RN in CA. You will do awesome because you have a great heart!
No wonder you mentioned recovering from the weekend in your comment yesterday! I'm still recovering too and I didn't have a trip to the emergency vet or moving the big screen thrown in! Hope all is well now!
We had a Superbowl party and the only people that came was our friends from the next town over. We had a huge snowstorm last weekend and had just shoveled out. Our friends were stir crazy and had to get out. The family an hour away didn't want to drive so far after the storm.
This week we got another ton of snow dumped on us and now no one knows where to put it.
That last one is so hard, something we deal with in mental health, too. Not everything can be fixed, sometimes you just have to be present with someone while they grieve. I can't think of anyone better to empathize and advocate than you!
Note to self: you are too lazy to get a dog.And you still have wiggle room to be a patient advocate, even when your new boss tells you all in the meeting that "Our goal is not to do what's best for the patient, it is to be compliant with federal regulations."
