Today is our youngest son's first day of school, 6th grade to be exact. This is his last year of elementary school, next year he will go to Junior High School.
Tomorrow, our oldest son will start 9th Grade in High School.
Folks always tell you how fast it goes, how quickly your children grow up, and when it happens to you and your kids, it is like a blink of the eye. Didn't we just watch these children take their first steps and say their first words? And now, my oldest wants to join the High School Debate Team and my youngest is the Big Man On Campus.
Summer flew bye, childhood flies bye even faster. I keep hearing the song, "Sunrise, Sunset" from the musical, Fiddler On The Roof in my head.

Dear So and So Letters - Visitors Center

Pink Skies at Night in LA
Pink Skies at Night, Sailor's Delight.
These pink skies during a recent sunset in my neighborhood were quite delightful for both sailors and landlubbers alike. I hope you enjoy. LA has spectacular sunsets probably in part due to our smog. I guess you could call that the silver lining.

Say What? Thursday - Preteen/Teen Edition
"Say What?" Overheard at The Sense of Humor is Essential Household include-
The youngest son was retelling a ghost story from Scout camp last month and told us of a Gold Miner and his loyal "burrito" who now haunt the canyons near the camp. I visualized an angry filled tortilla terrorizing campers in the mountains of Camp Mataguay in East San Diego County.
It cracks me up when I ask my older son to do a chore like empty the dishwasher, and literally the second I am done speaking, he hollers to his younger brother, "Hey, S., Come here and empty the dishwasher!" Ah, a true manager in the making.
Thank you to Cammie at The House of No Sleep (who is seriously funny and has zero tolerance or appreciation for anything remotely goose-like) for hosting Say What Thursdays that celebrate the cute things that kids and kids at heart say.

Boo.ty Props
I would have started blogging alot sooner if I knew how much schwag there was to be had in blogland. Thank you and Major Props to the wonderful bloggers who made this boo.ty possible.
My dog, Charley is my official package inspector looking over the loot from Chicken Nuggets of Wisdom.
I got all sorts of goodies from dear CNOW including a stunning purse from DiPaola Mama and Cheapskate Mom and a silver charm necklace from DiPaola Mama aka CNOW herself that I will treasure. Thank you so much!! She also plans to interview me for a post on her blog, isn't that crazy? I'm already breaking out into a cold sweat with anticipation.
This was also part of the prize package and I am mystified by its purpose. Is this a holder for slicing tomatoes or hard boiled eggs? Or to take pasta out of boiling water?? Maybe a veterinary obstetrics forceps to help deliver small animals like kittens? Any clues would be most appreciated. I suppose I Could Ask, but that wouldn't be as much fun, now would it?

Last and Certainly Not Least, my Dog Charley is captured in ink on these precious Monogrammed Notecards from Lydia And Pugs. The Generous and Talented Lydia is having hosting another giveaway for her Personalized Monogrammed Designs. I can't wait to do some holiday shopping with her for all the dog lovers in my life.

In Between Visits
Hello and I hope you had a great weekend or are having a great week, or whatever your time frame is today. I'm recovering from my wonderful visit with my big sister and her family. In addition to going to the pool, restaurants, and shopping, we mostly just "hung out" and had alot of laughs. (At least several times during their visit, I laughed so hard I almost had to pull over the car while driving. Gosh, we are downright funny people, I tell ya!) I relish my relationship with my sister because we were not close growing up with eight years and two brothers between us. I've always looked up to her and now we see eye to eye and sometimes she looks up to me. Very cool. Love you guys, wish you all weren't so far away.
So, I say goodbye to my dear Sister and her family, and now get ready for my Sister In Law, teenaged niece, and her friend to come visit us tomorrow for a few days. They live in a small beach town on the Central Coast of California and are looking forward to some Big City Sights including a trip to Chinatown for lunch, hitting the malls and stores as only SoCal can do, and hanging out with our two boys at the pool.
Of course, visits from company = laundry. Lots and lots of laundry. Our clothes dryer has also decided to take a vacation, well at least the heating element, so now I am waiting for yet another visit, this one from Vlad, my appliance repair guy. Thank goodness for the hot, dry California sun which is not taking any time off and is doing an able job of drying our clothes.
So, Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho, it's back to work I go. And back to clean the house, and get ready for company, Again. My boss says it because I live in Paradise. You know what, she's right.
