Many thanks for playing along and I will do this again soon because it's Fun to play the Fairy Godmother. Plus, See's Chocolate is really popular and well loved!
I had never heard of See's Chocolates until I moved to California sixteen years ago despite being a Hardcare Chocoholic. I have also traveled quite a bit and had the pleasure of discovering yummy treats all over. So today I wanted to share some of my favorites. (Yes, a post devoted to sweets. I am a junkie. Too far gone for any redemption.)
In California, two of my favorite chocolates are from See's Candies and Ghiradelli Chocolates. Fresh, flavorful, fullbodied. (Hmm, sounds like a wine review.) See's Caramels and Buttercream ANYTHING and Ghiradelli's bite sized dark chocolate with mint filling are delicious favorites.
A new inductee into my Chocolate Hall of fame is The Sweet Shop at The Ahwahnee Hotel. The pastry chef makes incredible plum sized truffles and buttercreams fresh every morning. The vanilla buttercream and caramel were incredible and so satisfying without being too rich.
As we move east in the continental U.S., Enstrom's Toffees from Colorado is well worth the calories. The combination of dark chocolate and almond toffee will leave you wanting more.
I have to give Shout Outs to these Sweet Shoppes, for their ice cream and other goodies, clean, fresh flavors and general yumminess.
Hawaii - Lappert's Ice Cream (Also, if I mention the Islands,it's necessary to acknowledge Shave Ice available in every flavor of the Rainbow.)
Now that I mentioned "Shaved Ice", I can't forget Water Ice (pronounced Wood-Er Ice) available in my big sis's beautiful Philadelphia.
Ohio - Graeter's Ice Cream has chocolate chocolate chip ice cream with chips the size of your thumb.
Also in Ohio - United Dairy Farmers - World's Best Malts and Milkshakes in a convenient store, A Convenient Store!!!
New York City, Little Italy - Ferrara Bakery and Cafe - The whole experience, the delicious pastries, attentive service and unique atmosphere is sublime.
How about you? Any wonderful Sweet Shoppes that you can share? Thank you so much.

Yay!!!! My mouth is watering already lol! I can't believe I won!!!! Thank you!
Mmmmmmmmmm chocolate. Need ice cream. Now.
There's a chocolatier somewhere's near you that makes a chocolate mixed with pop-rocks. I kid you not. It's really good, too. Could be San Diego, though (not so near you).
Fran's (local in Seattle) makes a chocolate with sea salt, also yummmmmmmmmm.
Totally jealous of Dawn S.!
Here are some of my faves:
Fannie May Candies (a Chicago thing - used to be the whole midwest until the bankruptcy and reopening) Pixies (turtles) and delicious and their caramels are wonderful. And let's not forget the mint meltaways or buttercreams!
Bissinger's Chocolates (not sure where they are officially located, but I know they're in St. Louis). Yum.
Also here in the midwest, we have frozen custard which is quite delicious - especially when other lovely treats are mixed in (like a DQ Blizzard, but not grainy).
Another ice cream favorite: The original Rainbow Cone in Chicago (on Western Ave. to be precise). Orange sherbet, pistachio ice cream, chocolate ice cream, strawberry ice cream, and Palmer House (cherry nut blend) ice cream. Delicious - although hard to eat before it melts off the cone in summer!
Awwwww! Oh er um... I mean hey, congratulations DawnS!
Eating Lindt 80% Daaaaark chocolate right now... yum.
xxx
You are a true chocolate aficianado. Congratulations to Dawn! (I think I need to tell my husband I want him to order some See's chocolates for Mother's Day!)
HI. Just cam over from JAM's blog and had to comment on this post! Love love love chocolate and now will have to see if they carry any of that beautiful sounding stuff up here in Canada!
I love caramel too!
We have Candy Kitchen in our beach towns.
congrats to dawn!!! she has quite a treat in store!!!
You hit my top two! "See's and "Ghiradelli's"
I've been to the Ahwahnee Hotel, but I missed "The Sweet Shop" (I'm kicking myself now!)
I NEED CHOCOLATE.... NOW!
Yes, absolutely, I am in the Chicagoland area. We have eaten and loved Fannie May Candies for years, they have been bought out and moved out of state BUT they still use the same recipes. Their Pixies make me weak in the knees. Also we have a fabulous dairy here called Oberweis. They have little stores that are popping up everywhere and have literally the best ice cream I have ever eaten. Another small chocolate shop in cutesie downtown Geneva Illinois is Grahams Chocolates. Quivering thinking of their fabulous turtles. Awesome post Martha! Maybe we should swap a box of Fannie Mays for a box of See's? Never heard of it before.
Yum on all of those sweets!!!! I am a HUGE fan of Joseph Schmidt who is also based in the Bay Area. His truffles are delicious and the chocolate sculptures are gorgeous.
I will most definitely enter the next time!
Off to butter up Dawn S, just in case she'll share...
Damnit!
Oh well, can't be greedy.
I LURVE see's chocolate. When I moved back east when I was five, we had to wait every Christmas to get see's from family back here (my favs - those chocolate/coffee lollipops... Or the ones that come in the box that look like sticks).
Of course, the second I moved to CA they start opening little stands all over the place. ::sigh::
Hooray for Graeters and UDF in Ohio! I drank a peanut butter milkshake from UDF several times a week when pregnant. And friends used to work at Graeters in high school- and would pass on free ice cream to the rest of us...
Thank you SO MUCH for leaving such sweet notes on my blog. I appreciate it so much - it definitely makes all the effort worthwhile.
I will start following your blog via my "reader" account, which is Lisa@Like a Valentine. Just so you know I'm one and the same person.
I must follow anyone that gives away Sees...I only discovered it this past fall and I am obsessed! I'll be back in San Francisco in the Fall and I'm dying to get back to the factory!!! :)
