With all the economic uncertainty, I am glad I chose the Nursing profession thirty years ago, or more aptly, It Chose Me. I don't take anything for granted and so sometimes I wonder what about the other career paths not taken. (My apology to Robert Frost.)
Maybe a heavy equipment operator because I like the idea of moving large quantities of dirt around.
Or maybe a makeup artist for TV and movies because I have a talent and eye for it and work well under pressure.
Hmm, or maybe an interior designer because I am a good listener and understand the dynamics of living spaces.
How about you? What other vocations or avocations pique your interest and why?
P.S. A teacher of grammar would Never, Ever appear on my list. (Sorry, Mrs.Spit)
P.S.S. My husband aspires to be a Shrimp Herder who coaxes shrimp into the nets of fishing boats with the bubbles of his boat's wake.

If I wasn't an EFL teacher*, I'd be a mime artist or a broadway singer or a ballerina or a chef or a filght attendant or a....kick me out of here Martha!
*English as a Foreign Language
Oh - but I have a VERY long list of 'if there were much more time in this life' professions!
But, here I'd like to share my fantasy job dreamt up in my young formative high school years:
The gal who writes the fortunes in the fortune cookies!
Oh yeah - now THAT would be a cool job!
If I weren't a Forensic Scientist, I'd be a baker. But then, I'd eat all my creations and never make a profit.
If I wasn't so dependant on an income I'd be a full time student. I love school and collecting degrees. Or, if I wasn't an accountant I'd be a teacher or interior decorator or....
It's hard to explain what I am today. I have a BS in electrical engineering, but I manage statisticians at a credit card company. I love what I do today and if I was to be in banking, the bank I work at is a very very stable one.
But, I'd love to either be a yoga instructor or teach high school calculus. Both I could easily make happen, but I don't want the pay cut, LOL!
Hmmmmm, I would have loved to have been involved in a museum in some type of professional capacity? Or maybe have my own little shop where I offer design services, rehabbed thrift findings, and artsy things? Kudos to you though, I could never be a nurse. My sister tells me about many of the sad stories and cases and people in agony and I can hardly bare it. I am way too emotional and cannot handle other people's really gross stuff either. I am thinking about taking a few extra classes when my kids are in school some day and get my teaching certificate so I can teach art to kids? My background and degrees are in art already so it's not that far off :)
A shrimp herder! lol.
From an early age, I was fascinated by the natural world. I wanted to be a scientist. My parents bought me a microscope, telescope, rock polisher, chemistry set, 1001 electro-magnetic kit, models of the human body, etc.
I'm not sure when I grew out of that...
Suddenly I want to get all those things for my own kids!
If I wasn't a Marketing Extraordinare, I'd be a writer for CondeNaste. I mean, come on...getting PAID to check out luxury resorts and restaurants all over the world?
If I wasn't poor, I'd be a Millionaire! har har har! I can wish, can I? How are you? I'm alive and kicking. Been out of the loop for a while trying to keep up with my crafting but I hope to get a little starting today and blog a while :)
If I wasn't a (mmmm... what exactly am I?), I'd be a (I think I kind of like what I am~ whatever that is!)
Buena Vista, Alcatraz Island... here we come!
TGIF, enjoy your weekend!
I always think I would have been a pharmacist if I hadn't been a teacher, but I don't think I would like the hours very much!
If I wasn't a nurse, I would be a therapist, or a pharmacist (they make WAY more than nurses).
If I wasn't a policy analyst, I would sell only black jelly beans or be a midwife.
If I weren't retired I'd be a fraud investiger. I think there is a lot of need for that profession these days. Or maybe I'd write horoscopes.
I have been an administrative assistant, a teacher, and an accountant. I am thinking about changing again (it has been seven years) but I haven't decided on what yet. I'm thinking about starting a public charter middle school (no pay), fixing up and renting houses, opening a tea shop, writing... I don't know.
Theoretically or realistically?
Theoretically I'd like to work in the travel business.
I wanted to be a nurse when I was very young - my grandmother was, in the '30's, in New York. And I think I may have been one in a past life. But if I wasn't a struggling artist, I'd like to be a successful one ;)
