It's Like Burying the Survivors

So do you see anything wrong with this sentence written by our 12 y/o son for a report on the World War II Battle of Bastogne?

"Some of these German spies escaped, were found and sent to court, or executed."

My husband said, "It's like burying the survivors". Really?

LOL! but I have to admire him for even writing about this battle, I'm sure my 20 y/o would give me the "deer in the headlights" look if I asked him about this battle

I very nearly picked up my phone and demanded that you let me speak to S.

Oh dear. . .

I should think that your DS has it just right ~ that's probably what did happen. Has your DH not seen Band of Brothers??

I'd have split it into two sentences, but it's probably better than what most teachers see these days.

Burying the survivors...heh...I hate when that happens.

Granted it's late, but I had to look at that sentence 19 times...
I guess I'm with your son. Sounds pretty much okay to me.

P.S. If it's for history class, how picky will his teacher be?

I am convinced your son would have done fine in my master's program. I learned a lot from it, but I was horrified at what the university accepted in terms of grammar (and overall writing style) from it's graduate students!
