You know it's summer in Southern California when you have triple digit heat and you hear the whirl of Fire Department helicopters overhead. They are dropping water on a brush fire about 8 miles away. We do have four seasons in Southern California and they are Earthquakes, Mudslides, Wildfires, and Smog. You learn to keep your emergency supplies ready and your gas tank full. The price of living in paradise, I suppose.
(This photo is from the fires last October, not this current one.)

EESH. My husband's college friend lives in Chico which is very north of you I think, and even they are starting to get smoke as the fires creep closer. HAHA about the 4 seasons. We have 4 too - Hot, Hotter, Hottest, Fall. No winter to speak of.
That must be scary. I hope that they get them put out soon. Hope all else is well.
Holy crap! I would be so nervous all the time if I live near wildfire area. Although fire is like my biggest fear. But my cousin used to live near where you are and she said you just kind of get used to it. I think it is so cool that you live close to where they film Weeds. Maybe someday my husband and I will make it out to the west coast to see California like we always have wanted to. Hope you're having a great fourth and I hope that they get those fires under control soon :-)
