Expert grammarians, please advise. I think this sign for the male restroom is incorrect, that it should read, "Gents".
Sign from the botanical gardens in Balboa Park, San Diego, California.
The teens proudly display their new pet, a giant beetle. I hope the cat doesn't mind sharing her litter box.

If only they had put in the words "bathroom".
I'm sure the cat wouldn't mind sharing her litter box. Her corner of your room, likely not.
You're correct about the sign. I think that beetle would fill the cat's litter-box, wouldn't it?!
oh.my.gawd. your.boys.are....gorgeous.
Love the signs - do NOT love the new pet. LOL!
yea.. the pet, not so much!!!
funny signs though!!!
Now I'm picturing partly eaten, semi-digested body parts - urgh.
What handsome young men! I'm not sure about the beetle, though.
Can I nominate some people to be fed to the plants?
Found myself thinking about Audrey II from little shop of horrors with the 2nd sign.
Hi Martha! just wanted to stop by and say hello since I have been pretty M.I.A. to blogging for the past several months except for placing a few links to more tv watching.
I love finding typos in the real world!
Mr. teenage son on the left looks like mama!
Greetings from Southern California :-)
I added myself to follow your blog. You are more than welcome to visit mine and become a follower if you want to.
God Bless You, ~Ron
The misuse of the apostrophe makes me crazy. But in this case, I think it depends on what they're actually trying to say. Are they saying that it is the restroom that belongs to the gentlemen, or are they saying that gentlemen should use that restroom?
How have you been? I haven't even seen you at Pavilions or the dentist or anywhere.
Well I suppose there's always the remote possibility that this isn't a public restroom at all, and that someone by the name of Gent lives there and is trying to stake out his space ! ;-) In that case the sign is fine.
If the sign is supposed to denote ownership of the facility by more than one gentleman then Gents' would be correct.
If it's supposed to be used by more than one gentleman, then Gents would be appropriate.
... the beauty of the English language ...
Hey, great idea having a humor site, although I don't know how you keep up with more than two blogs....I have two and facebook and some sites I do for a nonprofit org...but it's hit and miss.... I get these really humorous emails all the time from a couple of friends and I appreciate taking a moment to laugh when they arrive. Smiles.
Maybe the beetle ran off from that Carnivorous display and ate a word off that loo-door?
And Martha, thank you for your kind words.
xoxo
