It has been a wonderful and busy June for our family, especially for our youngest son, S. He finished his first season playing Flag Football, had a great time, and looks forward to playing next year. This is how we define a successful season. Winning first place is just an added bonus. At our team party, we had a cake from a favorite local bakery to celebrate. It is always a risk to order your cake over the phone from those for whom English is a second language. So, Go Viking!!! (Now, just which Viking would that be???)
S. also "promoted"* from the 6th Grade at the elementary school. He has been there since kindergarten (7 years), and we are so ready to move on, especially after the school yard duty ladies made him turn his Cereal Killer tshirt inside out because Cereal Killer invokes violence. Yes, really! Guns Don't Kill People, Puns Do. This is the same school where the teacher requested No Weaponry in a World War II report.Overall, S. received a great education and preparation for transition to Junior High School. However, I hope at S.'s new school, they won't suffer from a shortage of commas.

*Politically correct term for "graduation" from anything other than kindergarten, high school, and college.

sounds busy but nice.. and that cake looks way yummy btw!!!!!!
Cereal killer promotes violence? Really? Sigh...I hope Jr High is less literal. And I hope they are a little more familiar with punctuation.
Also, you should submit your cake to Cake Wrecks!
congrats to your son on his 6th graduation and with his football achievements. Yummy on the cake! too funny about the Viking. It was like years ago my sister was leader of a worship band at church. everyone called her "Fearless Leader" so they had a shirt made for it that said that for Christmas. Except the shirt people made it "Fearrless leader" LOL. She still wore it.
enjoy summer and I hope it doesn't go too fast for you guys!
betty
Thanks for the chuckles, Martha! I love when they arise from ordinary stuff that just beg to be noticed.
Congrats to S!
Wow. Confused little school he had there. So interesting that they couldn't find a comma anywhere for that sign. Weird. And as a teacher who hates inappropriate t-shirts, I think that cereal killer one is hilarious! Oh well. Maybe he's ahead of his time and they will appreciate something like that in 7th grade a little more. Here's hoping!
Happy summer!!
Congrats to S and good luck at his new school next year. I can't believe my Phoebe is going to be finishing 3rd grade this year!
Since when do playground moms make calls like that? Ridiculous!
Congratulations to your son and all his achievements. Talk about being OTT with regard to political correctness.
Congrats on the "promotion" of your son! Go Viking!
Great post! How did I miss this one?
I am actually a believer in the word "promotion". The only graduation my kids will have is the high school one.
Maybe there should be a site for banner wrecks. I died over the comma replacements.
Congrats to you too Mom for the last one finishing up elem school. Is it a little sad? Next year I will have one each in three schools.
Bwhaha A good education and a few good laughs along the way. Success!
Because you've raised such violent boys, 'natch. Sheesh!
Sounds like a lot of fun! Oh man- really they wouldn't let him wear that t- shirt...that's crazy! It just makes me want to get one :-) That cake made me giggle!
Well! Clearly the school is a much safer place now. Congratulations on his "promotion"...which should be a "graduation", in my opinion. I'm struggling with how many "graduations" my daughter will have to go through..."preschool graduation" "kindergarten graduation" and, then, apparently we're safe for a long time. I have to wonder what she'll make of all that.
Hopefully you'll have time for a little relaxation this summer as well! Congrats to your son.
We are moving on this year too... and I know what you mean, sometimes it is just time. Hope your "Ceral Killer" enjoys his new school.
Ah yes, I am excited for youngest who was promoted from 6th grade to be moving schools. She has gone as far as she can and it is time to move on. This is the same school that was convinced my son would be arrested as soon as he reached middle school because he is a WWII buff and knows all about the weapons used in war.
Enjoy your summer!!
